Payroll Manager

Crawford Company is looking for a dynamic Payroll Manager to join our team. As Payroll Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing payroll functions, ensuring accurate and timely processing of payroll for both union and non-union employees. This role requires a thorough understanding of collective bargaining agreements, payroll tax regulations, and compliance with federal and state labor laws. This position collaborates with Human Resources and Finance departments, works closely with all levels of staff throughout the company, and serves as the key liaison between the payroll department and union representatives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage end-to-end payroll processing for multiple pay groups (union and non-union)
  • Oversee time tracking for Non-Exempt employees and assist in preparing reports for audits or compliance reviews
  • Review and approve payroll transactions including wages, benefits, taxes, and garnishments
  • Reconcile payroll accounts and resolve discrepancies
  • Maintain payroll software and ensure timely and accurate payroll updates for union wages and benefits, new hires, terminations, and pay rate changes
  • Collaborate with HR and Finance teams to maintain accurate employee data, account coding, and address payroll inquiries
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, collective bargaining agreements, and company policies
  • Manage union reporting, weekly certified payroll, and multi-state tax deposits
  • Prepare and distribute reports on payroll metrics, labor costs, and union dues
  • Serve as the primary liaison for payroll-related audits
  • Stay informed on changes in payroll laws, taxation, and labor regulations
  • Maintain and update payroll procedures and documentation
  • Address and resolve employee payroll inquiries promptly
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related discipline; equivalent education and relevant experience will also be considered
  • Minimum of five years of payroll experience required; preferable including direct oversight of union payroll processes
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state payroll regulations
  • Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and union-specific payroll considerations
  • Experience with payroll systems (e.g., Sage, ADP, or similar)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and payroll reporting tools
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification
  • Experience in a multi-site or multi-state organization
  • Knowledge of HRIS systems and timekeeping software
