Payroll / HR Assistant
Crawford Company is looking for a Payroll / HR Assistant to join our team. This role is a key member of the administrative team, providing support to both the Payroll and Human Resources departments. As Payroll / HR Assistant you will be responsible for assisting with weekly payroll processing, maintaining accurate employee and payroll records, and supporting HR functions with recruitment, onboarding and employee engagement initiatives. This role interacts with employees at all levels of the organization and plays a vital role in delivering responsive and efficient administrative support across various HR and Payroll activities.
Job Responsibilities:
- Assist with weekly payroll processing for multiple pay groups and provide backup coverage for Payroll Manager responsibilities in their absence
- Complete weekly certified payroll
- Assist with reconciling payroll accounts
- Help maintain HRIS and payroll software to ensure timely and accurate payroll updates for union wages and benefits, new hires, terminations, and pay rate changes
- Prepare and distribute reports on payroll metrics, labor costs, and union dues
- Assist with monthly union reporting
- Process unemployment claims and employment verifications
- Post job openings, accept and review applications, and conduct candidate evaluations
- Assist with coordinating and conducting orientation for new hires
- Provide support and backup coverage for HR Generalist responsibilities in their absence
- Assist with open enrollment processes, wellness initiatives, employee engagement, and other HR projects throughout the year
- Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
- High school diploma or general education degree
- Three years of administrative support experience; preferably in Human Resources or Payroll
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Skilled with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Human Resources, or a related field
- Familiarity with payroll, HRIS, or timekeeping systems
- Previous experience working in the construction or manufacturing industry

Salary: starting at $55,000
- Compensation commensurate with experience and background
