Human Resources Generalist

Crawford Company is looking for a Human Resources Generalist to join our team. As HR Generalist you will play a vital role in supporting the daily operations of the Human Resource Department. This position is responsible for a wide range of HR functions, including recruitment, onboarding, benefits and compensation administration, employee relations, compliance and policy enforcement. The HR Generalist works closely with employees, management, and external partners to ensure processes are efficient, compliant, and align with the overall mission of the company. This role also provides backup support for the HR Director as needed and contributes to the continuous improvement of HR programs and initiatives across the company.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and facilitate employee onboarding and orientation programs
  • Maintain and update HR and payroll systems
  • Manage the recruitment process for hourly and union positions; respond to applicant inquiries and coordinate interviews
  • Provide backup support for HR Director responsibilities in their absence
  • Prepare and distribute HR-related communication and updates
  • Coordinate and assist with company events and employee recognition programs
  • Administer employee benefits, including communicating benefit options and reviewing monthly invoices
  • Address employee relations issues, investigations, and disciplinary actions while ensuring confidentiality, thorough documentation, and appropriate resolution
  • Assist with policy updates and ensure compliance with internal procedures and HR regulations
  • Ensure labor law postings are current at all company locations
  • Manage contractor/supplier compliance tracking systems and confirm employees meet jobsite access requirements, including training and background checks
  • Support year-end HR tasks and reporting processes
  • Collaborate with Payroll and provide backup support for payroll processing as needed
  • Attend job fairs and develop relationships with community partners to maintain a strong talent pipeline
  • Recommend and implement HR best practices, policy updates, and process improvements
  • Stay current with employment laws, industry trends, and technology to support ongoing HR innovation and compliance
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources or a related discipline; equivalent education and relevant experience will also be considered
  • Three years of experience in HR or another related field required
  • Experience with HR, payroll, and timekeeping systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • General knowledge of employee benefits and human resources related procedures
  • Familiarity with collective bargaining agreements and union-specific workforces
  • Knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices
  • Previous experience working in the construction or manufacturing industry

Salary: starting at $65,000

  • Compensation commensurate with experience and background
